Private #1 Suspect Book Review

I honestly did not like this book; in fact, I give it a 5 out of 10. I read the first book in the Private series and it had more action than this one did. I was locked in on the first book until I was finished however this book had me dreading to pick it up and reader. I have a few more books to read in the Private series and I truly hope that they are more interesting to read the book.

Draft 1 – The Landlord by Tawana Watson

Sometimes people deserve to die; dying would be their life’s purpose. Why else are there so many annoying people in the world urging others to commit acts of violence?  You can only push someone to a certain point until they snap.

This is the account of one of those people.

At the beginning of my moving into this place unbeknownst to me, she was overcharging all the tenants for late fees which I pointed out to her after stopping by the housing court here in the county and talking to a Housing Court Specialist (a person set aside to help people, like me, understand the laws surrounding landlord/tenant matters of this county). Anyway, most of the people who stayed here before me were sad pathetic individuals who instead of challenging her corruption, did what she demanded them to do, so she could leave them alone, they just reacted like zombies doing as they were told no questions asked.

On this particular day, I went to work, which turned into a day full of extreme stress. After work, I returned home only to find a 3-day notice stuck once again to the door of my apartment. My landlord knows nothing about the laws when it comes to landlord/tenant matters, I often think about the time before I moved here, I have a strong feeling that she got away with bullying and overcharging the residents that live in this complex before my tenancy started, which if I was to be honest, this place is sub-standard when compared to other identical places for rent. In fact, before I rented this place, I had seen an identical place that was cheaper.  I thought the landlord, at this complex, was very caring and hospitable, which is why I picked this place, boy was I wrong.  A person like me can only be pushed so far, especially when life is full of nothing but madness.

This confession that I am writing today will not only represent me but also stand to make a point, loud and without any mistakes. This confession……this manifesto, will allow all who read it to understand my frame of mind. This manifesto will exist as a token of my legacy, something that I will leave behind.

My landlord, Betty Errani, is a short, chubby, Italian woman.  Her apartment is on the top floor, and it is my belief that she resides on the top floor so that she can look down and monitor everything that goes on down here in the dungeon, a funny nickname that I call this place.

One day I had a pizza delivery and as I paid the delivery driver, I happened to look up to see her in the shadows of her darkened apartment balcony peaking at me from above.  Then about an hour later, a note was under my door reminding me that I needed to pay rent.  I picked up the letter, shaking my head because for this month my rent has been paid (it was late but paid) and today is only the 5th of the month.

“I hope you won’t be late with rent this upcoming month.”

Her reminders are usually short and to the point when it comes to money.  I just ignore the reminders and throw them away.

Jeff Isles disappeared about a month ago.  Jeff lives or lived (I haven’t seen him in months) across the hall from me.  Jeff, an architect, introduced me to this place.  He warned me that no one speaks to you here (there are no good mornings or have a nice day), and he told me that everyone here tends to live in their own bubble, coming and going silently.  Jeff also told me about Ms. Errani in so many words, that he described her as busy body.  He later told me that the property was Ms. Errani’s father’s and after his passing, it was willed to her.  She never married, never had children, and after her father’s death, she became somewhat of a recluse, upstairs in this brownstone all alone.  Jeff was friendly and very talkative; I miss him now that I think about it. He was a pleasant distraction from the stresses of my otherwise plain existence.

I made some ramen noodles, which I overcooked and they became swollen and slimy, so I just left them on the kitchen counter by the microwave. I sat on my ratty couch and with the remote I began surfing through the channels until (I am guessing) I fell asleep.  This part is a little hazy. I don’t remember things clearly; like I don’t remember how I ended up in my bed with my pajamas on when I knew that I was fully dressed on the couch watching TV.  Strange things like that happen to me from time to time; I would fall asleep and then end up in places with different clothes on with no recollection of how I got there.

I lay in my bed with my eyes closed for a few minutes before tackling the day.  When I got up, I went into the kitchen, started my coffee, and then afterward I went to the bathroom.  For a few seconds I looked at myself in the mirror; I noticed the bags under my eyes which did not make any sense.  I also noticed that I had a cut on my forehead. The blood had dried but it was a recent cut, one I did not have yesterday.  I turned the cold water on in the sink, grabbed a rag off the towel rack, and ran it under the cold water for a few seconds then, I squeezed the rag out of additional water, then I began to wipe the cut on my forehead. Afterward, I ran the shower and got in it. While in the shower I noticed I had a bruise on my hip, I could not recall how it got there.  I continued my shower then I got out, wrapped a towel around myself when the phone rang.

” Top of the morning to you.  Don’t tell me you are still in bed. Ha Ha time to get up and start your day,” the voice on the other end of the phone said.

‘I am up, I was just getting out of the shower,’ I responded. ‘Something strange is going on.’

“I know,” the voice on the other end of the phone said, interrupting me, “I will be to pick you up in 10 minutes.”

Then there was a click from the other end of the phone which indicated that whoever was on the other end had hung up. I gently threw my cell phone onto my bed.  I went to my closet, while still in the towel, and looked through my clothes hanging.  Today I believe the weather is going to be nice but chilly, so I opted to wear a thick sweater and jeans. As I was grabbing my clothes out of the closet, someone knocked on my door.  I hurried and got dressed as the knocking got more aggressive, I hurried and got dressed, “I am coming,” I yelled as I approached the door.  No one said anything, and as I opened the door, I discovered that there was no one there, but another 3-day notice from the landlord stuck to my door.

“After getting the note off the door I don’t remember much else,” I said as I sat in the police interrogation room, handcuffed to the table, and shackled.

‘So, you are telling me that you blanked out, went upstairs to your landlord’s apartment with a knife, and stabbed her 120 times and you don’t remember none of it.’

I looked at the officer and looked around the interrogation room for the first time realizing where I was. My hands were covered with blood and so was the shirt I was wearing.  “What happened?” I said puzzled.

The Tragic Life and Death of Takoda Collins

Takoda Collins, a 10-year-old boy, spent most of his short life locked, naked in the attic of his father’s, Al-Muhatah McLean, home attic.  Takoda Collins died on December 13, 2019, at the Dayton Children’s Hospital in Dayton, Ohio.  His father, Al-Muhatah McLean was later arrested and accused of abusing and raping Takoda,  along with Amanda Hinz, McLean’s then-girlfriend, and Jennifer Ebert, Amanda Hinz’s sister,  who also resided in the home.

The events of Takoda’s short, tragic life are as follows;

On December 18, 2008, Takoda was born in Wisconsin to McLean and Robin Collins.  Robin Collins admitted to the Wisconsin police on November 12, 2009, that she hit Takoda.  Collins was then put on probation and custody of Takoda was taken from her.  On December 9, 2011, Collins admits to the Daily News that she used drugs and her probation was revoked, sending her to prison, at that time McLean was awarded full custody of Takoda.  In October 2013, Collins writes a letter to the court asking them to prevent McLean from leaving the state of Wisconsin with Takoda. Collins claimed that McLean was under investigation by Wisconsin’s child welfare officials for abusing Takoda.  At this time McLean is accused of hitting his fiance, Amanda Hinze, over the head with a pipe, dragging her by the hair to a car, and punching her before driving away.  A prosecutor later dismissed the abuse charges by McLean against Hinze.

On February 26, 2014, Wisconsin’s courts were later notified by Collins that McLean moved with Takoda to Union City, Tennessee.  McLean filed with the Wisconsin courts, during this time his intentions to move with Takoda to Pennsylvania and McLean produced for the courts a signed, notarized letter from Collins agreeing for Takoda to move with McLean to Pennsylvania, however, Collins later states that she was bullied and pressured into signing the letter.

According to school officials in Dayton, Ohio around August 18, 2014, Takoda became enrolled at Horace Mann Elementary School, however, the exact date of when Takoda actually started classes at Horace Mann Elementary School is unknown.  On October 20, 2014, the Wisconsin courts ruled that McLean was allowed to move with Takoda to Pennsylvania with Robin Collin’s visitation to continue, unbeknownst to Collins and the Wisconsin courts McLean was already living with Takoda in Dayton, Ohio.

On February 19, 2016, Montgomery County Children Services, in Dayton, Ohio calls the Dayton Police to do a well-check regarding Takoda’s 9-year-old brother.  When the officials arrive at the house no one answered the door.  On August 20, 2016, Takoda’s brother runs away from the home in Dayton, Ohio. When he is caught by the Dayton Police, he tells them that he is forced to do squats while holding heavy backpacks as punishment.  The Dayton Police contacted children’s services and officers attempted to search the house but were unable to gain access due to McLean’s unleashed Pitbulls.  In police reports, it is noted that there were cameras inside and outside McLean’s house.  McLean, however, clarifies to the officers that the cameras were only there for show and did not record.  It is later reported that McLean contradicted his statement concerning the cameras.  On September 14, 2016, while Takoda, his brother, and Jennifer Ebert were in the home, it was alleged that someone had broken in waving a gun at them.  McLean later provided the Dayton Police with the recording of the event captured on the cameras that he previously stated did not work.

On May 11, 2018, Dayton Public School worker and Montgomery County Children’s Services request a welfare check on Takoda because they had suspicions that he may be being abused.  The Dayton Police, during this time went to Takoda’s home and again was unable to access anything because no one answered the door.  Sometime during, May 12 – 24, 2018 (the exact date is not known),  Takoda is pulled out school by his father, McLean, before the end of the school year.  It is reported that during interviews with the school staff, Takoda was never seen by them again.  On July 31, 2018, Takoda is formally withdrawn from school and is then registered as being homeschooled in the State of Ohio.  On November 18, 2018, McLean and Hinze makes a call to Dayton Police stating that Takoda is unruly.  McLean ask officers to take the boy to the Juvenile Justice Center.  However when the police had Takoda in the backseat of the police cruiser, McLean states that he will not be pressing charges against Takoda, but will take him to Kettering Hospital for evaluation. Takoda is then released back to McLean, however there are no hospital records showing that Takoda ever went to Kettering Hospital for evaluation.

Collins, in Wisconsin, on May 6, 2019, files a motion for contempt against McLean, stating that he has never brought Takoda to see her since he has left the state of Wisconsin.  Collins state that she has spoken to Takoda over the phone once, in four years.  The Wisconsin court dismisses Collins’ motion stating that the case is in the jurisdiction of Ohio since it was discovered that Takoda was living in Dayton, Ohio.  The next day, May 14, 2019, Collins calls the Dayton Police telling them that she believes Takoda is being abused by McLean.  It is alleged that the Dayton Police tells Collins that their responds to the home and dispatch records show that Takoda was in good hands with McLean, however there are no records showing that Children Services ever had a complete investigation of McLean or any abuse allegations.   On December 13, 2019, Takoda is rushed to Dayton Children’s Hospital where he later died from abuse and neglect.  McLean is arrested and the Montgomery County Children Services states that there was not an open case on Takoda.

According to prosecutors’ memorandum, Takoda lived in “Hellish” conditions the last hours of his life.  It is reported that Takoda lived,  locked, naked in the attic, beaten and abused.  After interviewing McLean’s girlfriend, Amanda Hinze and her sister, Jennifer Ebert, the police investigation, matches what the two women said about McLean’s abuse of Takoda to the injuries doctors found on Takoda’s dead body.  Prosecutors said that after McLean punched and elbowed Takoda, he stood on his back forcing all of his weight, crushing him.  McLean, then had Takoda stand in a “punishment pose” bent over and crossed-legged, as he went downstairs to watch television. McLean was not finished, after a few hours of watching television, he proceeded to torture Takoda by calling him derogatory names, pouring hot sauce on his buttocks, throwing him around, grabbing him by the ears and then dragging  him down the stairs.  McLean, then, took Takoda into the bathroom where Takoda was ultimately drowned by being submerged in the bathtub.  The Montgomery County Coroner’s Office said Takoda’s death was a homicide, ruling Takoda died of blunt force trauma in combination with compressive asphyxia and water submerison in a bathtub.

Prosecutors stated that Takoda suffered years of abuse by McLean.  Hinze and Ebert, according to the prosecutors allowed the abuse to go on and would encourage McLean to abuse Takoda.

McLean plead guilty to murder, rape, kidnapping and child endangering.  Amanda Hinze plead guilty to involuntary manslaughter and child endangering.  Jennifer Ebert plead guilty to involuntary manslaughter and child endangering.

The Tragic Death of Lacey Ellen Fletcher

On January 3, 2022, a 36-year-old Louisiana woman was found dead in the home of her parents.  Lacey suffered from locked-in syndrome.  Lock-in syndrome is a rare neurological disorder characterized by complete paralysis of voluntary muscles in all parts of the body except for those that control eye movement.  According to reports the body of Lacey Ellen Fletcher was found melted into a hole in a couch in the living room of her parents’ home.  Lacey was found emaciated with feces covering her face.  Lacey’s mother Shelia Fletcher called 911 on the morning of January 3, 2022.  According to a statement made by District Attorney Sam D’Aquilla, police officers upon arriving at Fletcher’s home witnessed the horrible scene of Lacey sunken into the couch with a strong horrific smell surrounding the area.  Officials later stated that Lacey had endured the worst case of neglect to date.  It was reported that Lacey just urinated and used the bathroom on the couch.  When Lacey was found her feet were crossed under her digging deeper into the hole in the couch.  Lacey had worn through the upholstery and foam padding of the couch which was filled with urine and stool.  It was noted that severe ulcers covered her underside which appeared to be rotten bone.  Lacey weighed just 96 lbs and had Covid-19. The East Feliciana Paris Coroner ruled Lacey’s death a homicide.  Lacey’s parents, Sheila and Clay Fletcher, through their lawyer, Steven Moore, stated that “they don’t want to relive the pain of losing a child through the media.  They have been through alot of heartache over the years.  Anyone who has lost a child knows what it’s like.”  Lacey’s parents also told the detectives on January 18, 2022, that Lacey developed Asperger’s Syndrome (a developmental disorder on the autism spectrum).  Lacey also experienced severe social anxiety, and during the fall of 2019, Lacey began to be eating less food. Lacey’s parents also stated that Lacey met with a psychologist over three years and they were considering having Lacey committed.  Dr. Ewell Bickham, the coroner, disagreed with what Lacey’s parents had stated and went on to state that Lacey had not seen a doctor in over 20 years.

Sheila Fletcher told police that she last saw Lacey alive at 10 pm on January 2, 2022, and when she awoke Lacey was dead.

Second-degree murder charges carry a mandatory prison sentence of life without parole for adults convicted.

The Disappearance of LaShaya Stine

LaShaya Stine, a 16 year old, African American female, went missing from Aurora, Colorado in 2016.   On the evening of July 15, 2016, it is reported that LaShaya was preparing to go to a job interview on the morning of July 16, 2016.

Sabrina Jones, LaShaya’s mother went to bed that night and unfortunately, it was the last time that she saw LaShaya.  In the morning of July 16, 2016, it is reported that the family realized that LaShaya was not in the home.   The family tried multiple times to reach LaShaya on her cellphone, however, each of the calls went directly to voicemail.  The family contacted the police and the police listed LaShaya as a runaway instead of a missing and endangered child.  It is reported that a week later, the police chief, who was on vacation when the family initially contacted the police regarding LaShaya, took a closer look at the case.  The police then informed the family that they had surveillance video of LaShaya on the night, of July 15, 2016, when she went missing.  The surveillance video shows LaShaya walking near East Montview Boulevard and Peoria Street at 2:30 am, early morning of July 16, 2016.

Sabrina, LaShaya’s mother, believes that LaShaya had snuck out of the house to meet someone and Sabrina believes that LaShaya was planning on returning home later because she left her clothes, wallet, and phone charger in her room.  It is reported that since LaShaya’s disappearance, there has been no contact with her family or friends.

LaShaya’s ex-boyfriend and friends were all questioned, no clues or information was discovered, and no foul play was suspected. Many tips came in pointing toward LaShaya being human trafficked.  It is reported that there were sightings of LaShaya coming in and out of motels in the areas known to be popular for sex trafficking.  In these sightings, LaShaya was seen with an unknown man who was thought to be taking LaShaya around Colorado and different states for trafficking purposes.  In one tip received, LaShaya was seen in a motel and an accurate description of a scar on her chest was reported.  A female who escaped from trafficking later came forward stating that she was with LaShaya.  Police, however,  were unsuccessful in finding her in any of the sightings.

As of November 21, 2020, the Aurora police searched a house on 2200 Lansing Street, in the same area where LaShaya was seen on surveillance video the night of her disappearance, the police searched the house for three days with equipment that could break through concrete and no news has been reported of any findings.

If you have any information regarding LaShaya Stine, please contact the Aurora Police Department at 303-739-6164 and Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867.  The Aurora Police Department,  the Metro Denver Crime Stoppers, and the FBI are offering rewards totaling

$15, 000 for information that helps located LaShaya Stine.

The Truth Behind the Sherrice Iverson Act

Sherrice Iverson, a 7-year-old African American girl, was found murdered on Sunday, May 25, 1997, in the bathroom at the Primadonna Hotel-Casino on the outskirts of Nevada.  The evidence showed that Sherrice died around 3:30ish from asphyxiation due to strangulation and evidence showed that she was forcibly raped.

Sherrice was at the casino with her father, LeRoy Iverson, 56 years old, and her 14-year-old brother.

LeRoy Iverson along with his two children left Los Angeles, on May 25, 1997, arriving at  Buffalo Bill’s Hotel-Casino at 12:30 am, and around 1:30 am, Mr. Iverson was asked to leave because he was not paying attention to his children.  After leaving Buffalo Bill’s, Mr. Iverson went to the Primadonna Hotel-Casino where again he was not paying attention to his children.  According to witnesses, two young males were seen playing with Sherrica near the arcade area of the Primadonna.  These young males were described as being white males in their 20s, one having brown to blond hair and the other having dark short hair. After Sherrica’s body was found, Primadonna provided the police video surveillance that was later put out to the public.

On May 29, 1997, Jeremy Strohmeyer was arrested and his friend David Cash Jr. ultimately turned himself in to the police.  It was discovered during interviews, that David Cash Jr., witnessed Jeremy Strohmeyer forcing Sherrica into a bathroom where he began to rape her. David never tried to intervene, nor did he report the crime to any officials.  David Cash Jr. was never charged with the crime.

LeRoy Iverson, who neglect his children while gambling was also never charged.  However, on October 14, 1998, Jeremy Strohmeyer, after taking a plea, was sentenced to four life sentences to be served consecutively without the possibility of parole.

On September 9, 1998, the Sherrica Iverson Act was introduced by the House of Representatives. This act amends, “the Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act to require a State, to be eligible to receive Federal grants for child abuse and neglect prevention and treatment, to provide a certification that it has in effect and is enforcing a law providing for a criminal penalty on an individual age 18 or older who fails to report to a State or local law enforcement official that the individual has witnessed another individual in the State sexually abusing a child.”

The Case of Hayden Jennings Berkebile

On September 29, 2019, Hayden Jennings Berkebile age 29 from Indiana, was communicating with Grace Anne Sparks age 19 from Tennessee, via video chat.  Berkebile is stated to have coerced Sparks into loading one bullet into a .357 revolver, then putting the gun up to her head, and then pulling the trigger which ultimately caused Sparks her life.

Hayden Jennings Berkebile was convicted of criminally negligent homicide.  According to the State of Tennessee, the charge of criminally negligent homicide applies because Berkebile’s conduct led to the death of Sparks, according to the State of Tennessee,  he knew of substantial and unjustifiable risk which he ignored.  This offense is a Class E felony with a sentence of 1 to 6 years in prison.

Berkebile’s defense argued that both parties (Berkebile and Sparks) had severe mental issues and that both willingly participated in the suicide role-play game (Russian Roulette) that unfortunately ended in tragedy.

The evidence however showed the opposite according to the prosecution, who read 1300 messages out loud to the jury which established the amount of control Berkebile had over Sparks. In fact, according to the records Berkebile and Sparks started communicating on a chat website when Sparks was 11 or 13 years old,  Berkebile was 7 years older than Sparks, and their common interest was suicidal ideations.   Later the relationship between Berkebile and Sparks turned sexual, where Berkebile would play the dominant partner directing Sparks to do kinky sexual acts via video chat. According to the prosecution, Berkebile developed sexual control over Sparks, and therefore his control led Sparks to take her own life.

The State of Tennessee Department of Health defines suicide as, “when a person intentionally ends their own life.”  Suicide is the 10th leading cause of death among Americans; for the State of Tennessee residents 10 to 24 years of age, it is the 3rd leading cause of death.  The judge on Friday, July 15, 2022, sentenced Berkebile to two years in prison.

The Case of Linda Ann Weston Part 1

Linda Ann Weston, the ringleader in kidnapping and torturing mentally disabled individuals for her own personal gain, was charged, along with her associates,  with 196 criminal charges by a federal grand jury in 2013. The victims were found by the police in the basement of a home in Philadelphia, now known as the Basement of Horror.  According to police reports, when they entered the basement they found a mentally ill man chained to a furnace, and three other adults hiding under filthy blankets and rags. They also discovered eight children in Weston’s upstairs apartment. According to police reports, all of the victims were held against their will in order to make money for Weston and her associates. All of the victims showed signs of abuse and neglect at the hand of Weston and her associates.

Linda Ann Weston’s associates included; her daughter, Jean McIntosh, Eddie Wright, and Gregor Thomas.  They were all working together to cash government checks intended for the victims.  The group approached the victims pretending to be their friends, intimate partners, or mother/father figures in order to gain their trust.  After the trust was won then Weston would persuade the victims to make her their legal representative payee.  She would then claim the money that was intended for the victims and use it for her own needs.  According to reports, from 2001 to 2011, Weston and her associates stole $225, 000 from Social Security checks.

When the police first discovered Weston’s Basement of Horror there were four adult victims being held in captivity: Tamara Breeden, Derwin McLemire, Hebert Knowles, and Edwin Sanabaris.  The victims ranged in age from late 20s to early 40s.  It was later discovered that Beatrice Weston, Weston’s niece, was also held captive.  According to reports, the victims stated that they were beaten, shot with pellet guns, starved, and even forced to drink their own urine.  It is also stated that Weston forced her female captives to become pregnant, and give birth, and then she would snatch the children from the women.  The youngest child rescued was two years old.

Beatrice Weston, at age 10 years old, was placed with her aunt (Linda Ann Weston) by Human Services in 2002.  According to reports Beatrice was mistreated just like the other victims.  She was burnt with heated spoons and shot with pellet guns.  It was also mentioned that Beatrice was made to prostitute by her aunt.

Weston was later sentenced to life plus 80 years, in September 2015, after admitting to all 196 federal counts against her.
